When raising a puppy we all want to be the 'Best' one in puppy class. Nobody wants the chewing, Barking, peeing, chasing, biting, pulling mess. But let's face it we bought a puppy!!
If we only focus on being the best we miss the learning for the pup and ourselves. Immerse yourself in the experience, dont get caught up in doing it right! Raising a puppy should be messy and fun and a lot of times frustrating.
Ask yourself why do I want to get a puppy ?
How would I feel if my puppy barked or growled at another dog?
How will my pup get exercise?
Where will the puppy sleep, eat, play?
What will the puppy do while I am away?
What will I feed my puppy/adult dog ?
What do I expect my puppy can do by the age of 6 months? 9 months? 16 months?
What do I value? obedience or relationship
If my puppy misbehaves in public what would I do?
Answering these questions will allow you to decide your priorities when getting a new puppy.
