when starting with your new puppy remember to spend the first 6 months in a perpetual play mode!! The art and act of play is vital to the making of a secure and happy adult dog. Try to stray away from the notion of walking your puppy on a leash. Try to embrace the idea of 'play' The concept of play is hardwired into every infant species. Play helps develop the skills needed later in life. It helps to form boundaries and rules. It helps to create bonds and deeper connections.

Ask questions about puppy classes before you enroll.!! Be wary of classes that don't encourage or allow puppies to interact. Safe, fun interaction is mandatory for puppies. Don't expect your puppy to attend a class, on a leash without interaction!!

Ways to play:

puppies don't have a great desire to 'walk' they would rather wrestle, tug, chase or be chased.

Puppies need stimulating exercise that challenges their bodies and their minds. Hide and seek, sniffing games, fetching.

Try building a small obstacle

course from common objects in your yard. Old tires to climb over, a 2x6 with blocks underneath to create a balance beam, steps to go up and down, hay bales, different textures and tactile experiences.

Take your pup shopping. Be super supportive and be ready to increase or decrease stimulation depending on their confidence.

FORGO THE LEASH FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE TO SEE IF YOU CAN BUILD THAT TRUST BEFORE THE LEASH.
